I want to make this a short topic. Basically we got our pup from people who didn't want her. They fed her Purina puppy chow from the beginning they said. I didn't think that was a good food so I switched her to Beneful when we got her. Ignorant about what they put in grocery store food, I switched her to Nature's recipe puppy lamb & rice last tuesday. I mixed it in with the Beneful like you are supposed to and she got bad watery diarrhea but she still wanted to eat the food and drank regularly. I didn't want her to keep getting diarrhea so....I got the nature's recipe easy to digest instead 2 days ago. She still has the runs................. UGGGHHHHHH!!! Can someone give food advice please???!!!??? &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; I just want her to be healthy but I want her to like her food too. She likes the nature's recipe "easy to digest" too but I don't want her to keep with the Nature's recipe if it's tearing her stomach up. |

Unfortunately it can be very tricky finding a suitable dog food that they like and doesn't have any undesired affects on them.
I suggest that you try the nature's recipe "easy to digest for at least a week to see if things improve.
Please note that the above is just my opinion and that I'm fortunate that Polee can and does eat anything and everthing without any ill affects.
Good luck in finding a suitable food |

Thanks Polee! I will keep with the easy to digest stuff and hope for the best. I don't think bringing her to the dog park helps much either although I do empty the water buckets before she drinks out of them, it doesn't keep her from getting the other doggies germs. Thanks again! |

I had the same problem with my puppy Cochise. I tried the Blue Buffalo puppy food and he seemed to still have the diarrhea. I now have him on the Chicken Soup for the Puppy Soul - Large Breed. He seems to tolerate it much better although we still get a little diarrhea every now and then. He loves the food.
I have kind of been contributing the occasional diarrhea to the fact that he had parvo when we got him. Most huskies have very sensitive stomachs so you just kind of have to experiment to find the best one for you. I would suggest that you keep him on the same dog food for at least a week, maybe two before you go on to another one though. Good luck. I hope that you are able to find something that agrees with him soon because I have been there and know that you kind of feel helpless. Keep us updated! |

I have plenty experience with this. !st, cut off all snacks and feed......just water for 2 days. During that time....give a couples tablespoons....Pepto Bismol. End of the second day......feed some homemade rice and lamb.......cook lamb well and cut into tiny chunks. Feed this for couple days......scoots should clear up. Do not feed rice/lamb commercial mix or mix two different dog feeds together. Always....blend small amount of new food into old one and gradually increase new food cutting back at old one until change-over is complete. Pups have tender stomachs for a while until older...some of them. Don't give them milk or ice cream during this time either. If this does not work...........vet time! May be worms, or some intestinal parasite. Worst case scenario would be parvo...but I doubt that this is the case here. Keep me posted!!! Dog puddings are no fun........should cure you of the desire for pumpkin pie thou.!!!!

Even just feeding them white rice for one day helps tremendously. We fed them puppy chow for a short while when we were broke and had the same problem. However, we switched to Beneful and have had no problems at all. No use trying to fix something that's not broken, in my opinion.
We put them on Wellness, Nutro and even raw meat for a while and there's not a big difference (well, the raw meat was the best out of those... but expensive) |

I really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions. I kept her with the Nature's Recipe easy to digest and just put a tablespoon of pumpkin on her morning feeding and she has no more scoots!!! I think it was the adjusting to a good food with not a lot of additives but she is doing so much better. Whew! Thank goodness!!
Thanks again husky fam!!! |

Our husky came to us with the worst projectile diarrhoea you can imagine... the cause was a large belly-button hernia, which was repaired when he was a 20 weeks old. I have tried all sorts of different feeds, from the organic packet stuff to home made stuff... and the only thing that seems to suit his gut is Beneful! Crazy, but true! He will be 4 years old this December and although he still occassionaly gets gut upsets, he is settled and stable on the Beneful!
