oh man you didn't know?? yes it is absolutely normal for huskies to shed at least two times a year, and the hair does come out in clumps. I'm certain you have nothing to worry about.
However if you notice bald spots where the skin is visible or redness and irritation, then you should see your vet. |

Huskies are awesome hu??!! Brush him daily mate! That's the best thing I can say- get one of the rake brushes designed to get that under coat out.

Meika is blowing her coat now. I don't expect it will happen more than once a year in our climate. Looks like we are killing birds in our back yard after we brush her.

We're lucky as Shadow sheds once a year, in November, which here is extremely humid and almost high summer. It's a mess and he always feels blue when shedding, but, as the increase in humidity is rapid over a short space of time, he can be subjected to flakey skin as well. Because of this, we don't brush him as the bristles irritate his skin. We use big, rubber hand mits from the pet shop and he loooooves it. If we brush him, he whinces, poor love.

lol thanks. shady, i think we need to try the rubber mitt with Apollo as he hates the wire brush (though with his extra long coat hair he gets tangles so easily). He also gets that flaky skin, so we'll give it a try to help with deshedding, when he does start to shed. Maybe I need to look for a wire brush with plastic tips so it doesn't scratch?? |

Thank goodness Max and Motegi are done blowing their coats. Now Lacie is a bigtime shedder.

Hey Mac, anything that's gentle will work. Sometimes Shady doesn't want the mits so I just massage him and it all comes out, takes ages though

yea the wire brush with the rubber at the end is alot easier for them to get use to.. Sable loves it.. she sometimes falls asleep when we brush her out.. |
